Modified Clerkship Exams
Approval: Passed by CC, SEC, and UMEC.
Exam Format: Exams will feature question styles similar to those in the Legacy curriculum. However, the scope will differ, with all specialties tested in a single, comprehensive examination rather than divided by core rotation.
Structure: There will be three exams. Each exam is divided into two parts:
Part 1: Written on a Friday.
Part 2: Taken the following Friday, exactly one week later.
Exam Breakdown:
The first exam is formative.
The second and third exams are summative; students are required to pass only one of the two summative exams.
Tentative Dates:
June 2025,
October/November 2025,
April 2026.

Block 2 was well-organized and substantive, with a strong emphasis on pathophysiology.
Students requested more focus on pharmacology in future sessions.
The class particularly appreciated review sessions with cases before the OSCE.

Western Deans’ Meeting in Winnipeg - October 17-19, 2024
Attended multiple sessions, including a meeting with the Deans from Western Canadian medical schools (UBC, SFU, UofA, UofC, USask, UofM). Key discussion points included:

The Rural and Remote Northern Program is a specific financial incentive program to encourage physicians to practice in rural and remote communities in Alberta. We'll be interested in hearing what students know about this, and the role / concerns on compensation for working in rural and remote.
